The Bengaluru police are preparing a database of foreign nationals overstaying in the city. Those found to be overstaying for more than three months will be deported immediately.
Home Minister G Parameshwara has directed the police to prepare the database and submit it to the Union Home Ministry. Then the process to deport the foreigners to their country of origin will start, a senior police officer said.
The database is being prepared by Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) in their respective division. Foreigners overstaying for a month or two will be dealt with in a lenient manner but those overstaying for more than three months will be sent back immediately.
“We know that around 1,500 African nationals are overstaying in Bengaluru and they do not bother to renew their visa,” the officer said.
The recent incident of an African woman causing a ruckus has made the police and the Home Department take serious note of overstaying foreign nationals.
“We have been making efforts to deport overstaying foreign nationals. This time, it is being taken up seriously,” the officer said.
