Former Vice-President B D Jatti’s son Danappa Jatti and daughter-in-law Lakshmi have alleged that an assistant commissioner of police and a sub-inspector demanded bribes to drop the charges against them over the death of a worker in the sewage treatment plant of their gated community in eastern Bengaluru.
The couple has approached Abdul Ahad, DCP, Whitefield, against ACP Sudhama Nayak and sub-inspector Somashekar.
Ahad said the couple hadn’t filed a formal complaint but added that he would check the facts and order an enquiry, if necessary.
On May 24, 2017, a worker was asphyxiated while cleaning the blocked sewage plant in Jatti Dwarakamai Villas. Another worker was hospitalised. Police booked the Jattis for causing death by negligence.
The couple claimed that the ACP demanded Rs 5 lakh and the sub-inspector Rs 2 lakh to drop the charges against them. Though they paid up, their names were still included in the charge sheet. When the couple questioned the ACP, he demanded a plot of land to close the case.
The couple also alleged that the jurisdictional police station had refused to take their complaint against the ACP.
