The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is probing the case after the victim’s family alleged custodial death.

The police said the deceased, Ramesh from Dundanahalli in Mandya, was arrested with his son Manju, 27, and Venkatesh, 36, of Mysuru, for stealing from a temple in Bommanayakanahalli, Channapatna.

After three days in custody, they were to be produced before the court on August 20. Around 6.45 am the same day, Ramesh went to the washroom, but did not return. He was later found hanging from his dhoti and declared dead at the hospital.
