Hyder Ali, a resident of Anepalya, was hacked to death by a group of 10-12 unidentified assailants in the dead of the night.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the attackers had arrived in two groups — one tracking Ali, while the other waited near the stadium in a car —before launching the assault with machetes.

A senior police officer confirmed to DH that four people, who had prior knowledge of the crime, have been detained. However, the officer declined to disclose their identities, citing the ongoing investigation.

“We have interrogated them and gathered details about the assailants. We also have credible leads, and all the suspects will be arrested soon,” the officer said.

While the motive is yet to be fully established, preliminary findings suggest the murder was likely the result of an old rivalry.

Ali had 11 criminal cases registered against him across various police stations.
