Police said Meena alias Malini, Rupa, Junaid Raj, Ravish alias Ravi Aftab and Naveen were arrested following a complaint lodged by Sagaya Mary. The complainant was running around to get a loan from the LIC Housing Finance when the accused allegedly enticed her into believing that they could help her. They took all the original documents from her on the pretext of submitting to the LIC for a loan.
Rupa is alleged to have posed as Sagaya Mary before the finance company and applied for a loan. The finance company had even sanctioned a loan of Rs 17.39 lakh. At the time of franking of certain documents, the LIC Housing Finance officials grew suspicious. They alerted the police, who arrested the gang members and interrogated them thoroughly. Succumbing to the intense interrogation, they revealed their identity and their modus operandi. Police said cheating cases are pending against the members of the gang in the Kalasipalya, Upparpet and Seshadripuram police stations.
Test ride kills boy
A boy paid with his life for a reckless and rash test ride by an automobile mechanic near Deepa Nursing Home on the Old Madras Road on Monday evening.
Naresh, the accused mechanic drove vehicle at high speed to test the pick-up on the road and hit a nine-year-old boy Manjunath, who was walking home. The impact was so severe that the boy died on the spot.
