Bengaluru: Four Pakistani nationals staying in Karnataka on visas other than long-term, diplomatic and official visas have returned to their home country, a top police source said.

"All four were in Bengaluru itself, and they had been intimidated to leave at the earliest. They left on April 26 and 27,” the officer said. They were all on short-term visas.

The development came after the union government announced the cancellation of visas of Pakistani nationals in the aftermath of the attack in Pahalgam.

According to date from the Home Department, 101 Pakistani nationals are staying in Karnataka on long-term visas and will continue to reside there, as the central government has exempted them. Long-term visas are given after marriage or for educational purposes.

To a question raised by BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal, Home Minister G Parameshwara told the state legislature last month that 25 Pakistanis staying illegally in Karnataka had been deported, while a search was underway for Pakistanis staying in the state illegally.
