Bengaluru: The BMRCL has reopened a fourth entrance to the Cubbon Park metro station.
This entrance, located near the income tax office, was closed during the pandemic, along with the entry/exit points towards the M Chinnaswamy Stadium and the HAL corporate office. Only the Minsk Square entrance had been kept open.
While the entrances towards the stadium and the HAL office were subsequently reopened, the one near the income tax office remained shut.
Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) had cited the mismatch between high operational expenditure and low footfall for the decision.
However, this inconvenienced passengers coming in from Infantry Road and Balekundri Circle. They had to either walk to the HAL entrance or cross the busy Minsk Square to access other entrances.
Following complaints from passengers, the BMRCL reopened the fourth entrance on January 13.
Passengers want the BMRCL to similarly open all entrances at other stations, citing the rising ridership.
Varun Amingad, a passenger, highlighted the need to reopen both entrances on the southern side of the Banashankari metro station.
New escalator at RV Road station
The RV Road metro station, which will become an interchange station once the Yellow Line opens later this year, got a new escalator on January 20, according to the BMRCL.
The station has four platforms — two each for the Green and Yellow lines.
