Speaking to Deccan Herald, K Jothiramalingam, Principal Secretary (Dept of Tourism) said, this initiative is basically to make exotic tourism destinations across the State more popular.
"This would also add momentum to the Golden Chariot train. We will give complimentary tickets and provide all services to those athletes on board. One individual medalist will get one extra ticket and can avail all other facilities and in case of a team, one coach can be accommodated,” Jothiramalingam said.
According to him, the Central Government had written a letter to the tourism departments in all the States to felicitate the medalists. The offer will be valid till March 2012. The Golden Chariot - Pride of The South Train Tour starts every Monday of the week from Bangalore and ends in Bangalore every Monday morning. It travels through destinations like Mysore, Kabini, Belur, Hampi, Badami and Goa.
