A job-cum-free skill development training mela will be organised on Saturday between 9 am and 6 pm at Kamalammana Gundi Grounds in Mahalakshmi Layout. The mela will be organised under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY).

Briefing reporters, Union Law Minister D V Sadananda Gowda said unemployed youth in the age group of 18 to 40 years could participate in the mela.

About 60 companies from manufacturing and service sectors will conduct interviews and hire candidates on the spot. As many as 4,500 job opportunities are available in various companies located in Bengaluru and other parts of the State, he said.

Employment offers will be made depending on an individual's ability. Companies such as Minacs, IBM, Dominos, Big Bazaar, HDFC, Just Dial, Mphasis and Eureka Forbes will take part.

For candidates who do not get a job offer, the PMKVY will conduct free skill development training programme. The duration of the training will be 100-200 hours and candidates who enrol for the same will also be given a stipend, said the minister.

Training partner
The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) has tied up with Rooman Technologies as a training partner, he added.

Gowda said such a mela would be organised in all Assembly constituencies in Bengaluru North parliamentary constituency. The NSDC is setting up a skill development training centre at Peenya in Bengaluru at the cost of Rs 100 crore, he added.
