Nimhans is launching an online training series to help parents manage their children’s excessive screen use and related behavioural issues. It is called ‘Parent Group for Management of Technology Addiction’. The sessions will be held over four Saturdays.
The training draws from ongoing research at the Service for Healthy Use of Technology (SHUT) Clinic, an internet deaddiction centre run by Nimhans in BTM Layout.
It will cover topics such as cyberliteracy (mental health issues stemming from tech overuse), communication breakdowns with children, and triggers for such conflicts. Parents will learn practical tools to set boundaries and improve conversations with their children.
Dr Manoj Kumar Sharma, coordinator of the SHUT Clinic, says they have received over 400 registrations from across India so far. These parents are mostly seeking help for concerns such as gaming addiction, irritability, and communication gaps. “If such demand continues, we may hold sessions every Saturday,” he adds.
The training is open to parents of children of any age.
On May 31, June 21, June 28, and July 5, from 11 am to 12 pm on Zoom. Entry free. To register, email nimhans.wellbeing@gmail.com or call 94808 29670.
