The matter is already being probed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) countrywide.

The city's Central CEN police registered the new FIR on July 12 following a complaint from Pradeep Simha M, 39, a district officer in the Minority Welfare Department.

Simha alleged that 643 fake documents were uploaded to the scholarship portal between 2021 and 2023, impersonating students, and Rs 1.35 crore in scholarship was claimed.

He further alleged that this was done by some students and nodal officers of organisations that received the scholarship.

The CEN police registered the case under the Information Technology Act.
