Work on a multi-level flyover at the Silk Board junction is likely to start at the beginning of next year as metro authorities have discharged the first tender inviting bids for the Rs 133-crore project.

The BMRCL has called a second tender for construction of loops and ramps for the proposed 2.84-km flyover at a cost of Rs 133.54 crore. The project also includes
road widening and allied works.

BMRCL chief public relations officer and general manager (Finance) U A Vasanth Rao said they had to call a new tender as one of the two bidders for the previous invitation was found technically unqualified. “There were two bidders of which only one was found qualified. To ensure a competitive bidding process, we discharged the tender and called a new one,” he explained.

The latest tender has set August 28 as the last date for submission of the bids following which BMRCL will complete the process of technical evaluation and decide on the financial proposal.

The latest tender comes with the same specifications, including the 27-month deadline for completion of work. With this, the work is expected to be completed at the beginning of 2021, which is also the year when BMRCL has promised to complete Phase 2.

However, a set of connected issues, including the demolition of the flyover at Jayadeva junction, is expected to delay the project. Officials have postponed the demolition after they were told to widen the road between BTM Layout and Silk Board.
