This year’s concert will be headlined by Grammy Award winner and Padma Bhushan recipient Pt Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, renowned for playing the Mohan veena, a slide guitar of his own creation.

He will perform his composition ‘Desert slide’, a symphony blending Indian classical instrumental music with Rajasthani folk. He will be joined by Padma Shri Ustad Anwar Khan Manganiyar on vocals, and Pt Salil Bhatt, the creator of the satvik veena.

Mitra CanCare Foundation was founded by “cancer victor” Amar Bhaskar. At the time of his diagnosis in 2006, there were “not many support groups, not much awareness”. While childhood cancer is treatable — even curable in 80-90% of cases — “people (in India) do not have enough financial support” to undergo treatment. “I didn’t want everybody to suffer in the same way,” he says, explaining why he started the not-for-profit.

On June 1, 6 pm-9 pm, at Chowdiah Memorial Hall, Malleswaram. Tickets online.
