GAIL to launch CNG supply to households today

Gail (India) Limited will launch house connections of CNG (compressed natural gas) through underground pipes on Sunday (June 18).

The launch event is expected to take place at HSR Layout and will be attended by Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

GAIL has laid 66 km underground steel pipelines and 452 km of MDPE pipelines for Bengaluru domestic PNG (piped natural gas) connections.

The infrastructure has been laid for approximately 34,500 households out of which 23,300 houses are ready for conversion and approximately 3,000 houses are already using PNG. A CNG station has been commissioned at Laggere, while three CNG stations at BMTC bus depots in Sumanahalli, Hennur and Peenya are ready for commissioning.

Nine industries have been connected with PNG, including Intel, Bosch, BHEL, Apotex Pharmachemicals, ADCOCK Ingram Ltd., Garuda Polyflex, GTR Aluminium, Exclusive Overseas and Toyota Industries Engine India Ltd. There are also 22 commercial units connected to PNG.
