A 28-year-old man was killed when a BMTC bus ran him over near the Metro station in Yeshwantpur on Thursday morning, police said.

Raghu Naik, a resident of Laggere who worked in a garment factory, was riding pillion with his friend Chandrashekar on a bike. They were going to the Majestic area. Around 5.30 am, just as they reached the Metro station, a speeding BMTC bus rear-ended their two-wheeler. Chandrashekar, who was riding the bike, fell to his right whereas Naik fell to the left. The front wheel of the bus then ran Naik over, inflicting grievous injuries on his head and killing him on the spot. Passersby rushed to their help and took them to a nearby hospital. Naik was declared brought dead whereas Chandrashekar was discharged after being given first aid. Members of the public caught hold of the BMTC bus driver, Girish Kumar, and handed him over to the police. The bus was on its way to the Kempegowda bus station from Nelamangala.

A case has been registered at the Yeshwantpur traffic police station.
