A 15-year-old girl was killed on the spot, while her brother suffered injuries after their two-wheeler was mowed down by a BMTC bus on Mysuru Road on Sunday. The deceased  was identified as Savitha while her brother Santosh, 19, is being treated at a hospital, said the Byatarayanapura traffic police.

Savitha and Santosh hail from Bilikere village in Mysuru district. They had come to the city on Saturday to attend a wedding and stayed at their sister’s house in Sunkadakatte. They were heading to Akkamahadevi Kalyana Mantapa at Rajarajeshwarinagar around 10.30 am, added the police.

The BMTC bus plying from KR Market towards Doddabasti mowed down their two-wheeler from behind. Santosh was thrown up in the air and fell to his left, while Savitha fell in the middle of the road. She was killed on the spot as she came under the front wheel of the bus, said the police.

The police seized the bus, detained the driver, Suresh, who claimed that Santosh suddenly took a left turn which led to the accident as he could not control the bus quickly.

Savitha had recently passed the SSLC examination, while Santosh, a college student, is employed at a store to help his family, said the police.
