Eco-friendly vehicles were introduced at Cubbon park on Sunday to help ferry the aged and also those with children around the park.

Deputy director of horticulture department Mahantesh Murgod said that the eco-friendly vehicles have been introduced on a trial basis and the response has been good according to officials.

“This facility can be used by visitors who wish to take a trip around the park and are unable to walk much. To try it out, the vehicles were brought from Lalbagh where they are in regular use,” he added.

This facility was sought by many visitors who came to the park on Sunday when the vehicles are prohibited, Murgod added.

He explained that with the park being a vast one spread over 192 acres, not all will be able to walk. Since there is a ban on vehicles on Sunday, the facility was much needed, he observed.

The day began with Udayaraga in the park and was followed by a show by the KSRP police band. Stalls by Hopcoms, sale of ornamental flowers and book exhibition also attracted the crowd.
