Think of comfort food in winters, and the first thing that comes to mind is momos.

Melt-in-the-mouth warm dumplings, crunchy cabbage pieces, juicy and tender minced chicken, contrasted with fiery hot and sour chutneys – could anything ever beat them?

More so, available at every street corner in the City, momos have now become an essential part of any dining table.

Metrolife visits some of the most recommended momo joints in Delhi and finds out what makes them such a hit.

One cannot possibly begin a pilgrimage to the holiest of momo spots in Delhi without visiting the mecca of all momo lovers--the Momo’s Point at Kamla Nagar.

Generations of Delhi University (DU) students have passed through this momo joint, and it continues to feed many more.

In fact, the founder of this place was a student of DU himself. Harsh Sambher, owner of Momo’s Point recounts, “I studied at the Hansraj College in the 1990s.

Earlier, we used to go the Yashwant Place in Chanakyapuri to have momos, as the North Campus didn’t have good momo joints. Later on, I followed my passion of momos to set up this eatery. Mind you, this was the first momo shop in this area.”

The speciality of this place is its Masala Tadka Momos. Harsh says, “You won’t find them anywhere else in Delhi. Steamed and tossed in hot garlic sauce to perfection, they leave you asking for more.”

Qds is another popular momo hangout for DU students. Their signature dish Tandoori Momos is to die for. Lucky Jaswal, co-owner of Qds says, “It is our innovation. Vegetarian and non-vegetarian steamed momos roasted in the tandoor for two to five gives it a charred red colour and a great flavour.

Besides, we serve them with a unique mint chutney which makes it all the more appetising. It’s a must try.” Qds has completely cashed in on its fan following among students and has opened an outlet in Satya Niketan too.

In South Delhi, one must check out the momo joint facing 3Cs mall in Lajpat Nagar called Avantika Food Corner. Their fried momos are its USP. Madhuparna Das, a regular here, says, “I come here every time I shop at 3Cs, and cannot resist having the fried chicken momos here. Not only are they tasty, they’re also very juicy and the meat does not smell. The size is also very generous.”

And if health is your concern, drop in at Brown Sugar in Defence Colony. They serve momos made of wheat, with an array of healthy fillings like soya, cottage cheese, spinach, vegetables, corn, mushroom, broccoli, baby corn, chicken, mutton and fish.

The manager Deepak Chaudhary says, “Momo junkies can have as many momos as they want to here, and not feel guilty about it. Such momos are great for weight watchers, without compromising on the taste.”
