Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala inaugurated Krishi Mela 2018, organised by University of Agriculture Sciences, Bangalore (UAS-B), at the Gandhi Krishi Vignana Kendra (GKVK) campus on Thursday.
The three-day event will focus on auxiliary technologies to enhance agriculture income. Plots demonstrating yield of new varieties of seeds, agricultural innovations and implements suitable for small and marginal farmers, Israel agriculture technology along with discussion with agricultural enterprises are the key features of this year's Mela.
“To support youth to start agriculture-related business the Krishi Mela 2018 will have exclusive stalls where suggestions and information to the youth will be given,” said S Rajendra Prasad, Vice Chancellor, UAS-B.
Around 445 farmers from Karnataka who were successful in implementing scientific and organic agricultural methods were felicitated by the governor.
An exhibition, including agricultural engineering and animal husbandry, were the other key attractions on Day 1.
“More than 55% of India's population lives in villages and they depend on agriculture to lead their life. The Agriculture University is helping farmers through new technology, leading to rising productivity,” Vala said.
“More than 60% of students in agriculture university are girls. This indicates that women are interested in the agricultural sector. This is a positive development,” he added.
Farmers from Bengaluru rural, Ramanagara, Chamarajanagara, Mysuru, Mandya, Hassan, Kolar, Tumakuru and Chikkaballapur districts took part in the Krishi Mela.
