The Department of Collegiate Education (DCE) issued an order on Tuesday for the appointment of 1,489 assistant professors in government first grade colleges. The counselling for appointment of these lecturers in colleges across the state will begin on August 1 and continue till August 5.

The schedule for candidates to appear for counselling will be published soon, the circular by the department said.

The notification for appointment of 2,160 assistant professors was issued in 2015. The task of conducting the entrance test and selection was assigned to the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA). The KEA had sent a list of 2,034 eligible candidates to the DCE.

After scrutinising their documents, the department has finally appointed 1,489 candidates. Several candidates were disqualified for producing fake documents.
