GP vice president chased, hacked to death

Three men chased and hacked a Gram Panchayat (GP) vice president to death in HSR Layout on Tuesday morning.

The victim is identified as Manjunath, 37, a resident of Krishnappanagar near HSR Layout. He was the vice president of the Halanayakanahalli GP in Anekal taluk. He was murdered over financial and real estate disputes, it is said.

According to the police, Manjunath was riding on his bike to Bengaluru when the suspects – Raghu, Murali and Dilip – attacked him at around 9 am. Dilip is a relative of Manjunath, it is said. Manjunath sped away as the trio chased him. However, they accosted him on the road behind Amrita School of Engineering and attacked him with lethal weapons.

The police rushed to the spot after local residents informed them about the attack. The police shifted Manjunath to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Manjunath was into real estate business. He was also a moneylender and had a financial dispute with Dilip, which led to the murder, said the police. The suspects are absconding and the police have launched a manhunt for them.
