The post was shared by Ray on his X handle, stating that he has received a salary hike of 7.5 per cent, however, little did the happiness last as the landlord also increased the rent by 10 per cent.

"Salary hike I received was 7.5% meanwhile BLR landlord increased the rent by 10%," he wrote.

Disheartened over this, he further said that there will be a day when the rent will become more than his salary.

"If this goes on, someday my rent will become more than salary," the post read.

The post has garnered over 480k view and a flurry of comments, many adding on their experiences of cost of living in the city.

"This is true for most IT employees in Bangalore and Hyderabad. Half of our salary goes into paying rent, and the other half goes into paying taxes," a user commented.

A second user humourously wrote, "There should be a separate full-time course on how to become a landlord."

"In India, no one has accountability. It's better to move to the village, keep low expenses, and let the economy collapse," a third user stated.

Housing costs are eating wages alive in tech cities, and I will suggest to go to your hometown and do some freelancing work," noted a fourth.

Many other users noted that Bengaluru has a higher cost of living compared to other cities in India, and that some are considering moving to their hometowns with a remote job.

"Bangalore sucks your salary in rent, your time in traffic & your skill in low payment," a user claimed.
