Kumar was arrested on charges of murdering his wife Lakshmi on November 7, 2008 by the Airport Police. He was arrested and a charge sheet was filed by the Police after he admitted to the crime on 12 December, 2008. However later on, he had moved the High Court for bail pleading not guilty. The Police submitted that it had the records of CCTV and other details in this connection. Justice Subhash B Adi, who heard the matter adjourned it.
