The High Court on Friday reserved order on former chief minister Jagadish Shettar’s  petition against a notice issued to him by the Bangalore Metropolitan Task Force (BMTF) with regard to the denotification of land at Srigandha Kaval.

Shettar, in his defence, has contended that a chief minister could not be prosecuted and the decision to denotify the land was taken by the Cabinet.

Advocate General Ravivarma Kumar, appearing for the government, said the chief minister was not above the law and revenue secretaries had objected to the decision (to denotify the land) but their suggestions were ignored. A commercial land cannot be converted into agriculture land for purpose of livelihood, he argued. Justice R B Budihal reserved the order.

Axed KMF chief moves HC

P Nagaraj, the dismissed chairman of Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF), has moved the High Court for revoking his dismissal order issued by the State government on Thursday.

Nagaraj stated he was asked to explain about the independent decisions taken against the KMF byelaws, speaking directly to Union ministers, travelling by high-end cars and coming in the way of the managing director’s work.  He said he was given just two days to give the explanation, as against seven days, as mandated by the co-operative societies’ rules.

Advocate General Ravivarma Kumar, appearing for the government, argued the petition was not maintainable as Nagaraj must approach the appropriate authority—the Registrar of Co-operative Societies—with his complaint before moving the court. Justice B S Patil adjourned the hearing until Monday.
