The high court on Monday stayed an order of the Land Tribunal passed in December 1980 while hearing a petition challenging the encroachment of Pattandur Agrahara Lake.

The Tribunal in its order under the Land Reforms Act, 1963, had granted a private party the 11 acres and 20 guntas of land .

After a series of legal battle over the ownership of the land, the state represented by its revenue department had recently approached the high court alleging fraud in the lake encroachment issue.

It argued that the basic document on which the encroacher has obtained court decrees and orders to possess the lake, which is a supposed Land Tribunal Order, and the Land Tribunal has no jurisdiction to grant away a lake bed.

The case is adjourned to July 24, with interim order staying the land tribunal order until further consideration.
