HC upholds life sentence of man in murder case

The High Court of Karnataka on Thursday upheld the City Civil and Sessions Court's judgement, awarding life imprisonment to Satish Kumar Gupta, former HR manager of Infosys Limited, for killing his wife.

A division bench of Justice Ravi Malimath and Justice John Michael Cunha upheld the lower court's judgement while dismissing the appeal filed by Gupta against his conviction.

It may be recollected that in 2017, the sessions court convicted Gupta after he was found guilty of killing his wife Priyanka Gupta, who was working as a teacher in Delhi Public School. He had slit her throat in their residence in 2010.

The couple's marital discord began over an alleged abuse against Satish's parents. Satish had claimed that he was upset with his wife as he was not allowed to stay with his parents.
While on two occasions, he blindfolded her claiming it was a surprise and offered her gifts. He employed the same trick for the third time and killed her.

In an attempt to create an impression of not being at the spot of come, Satish also called on his wife's phone.

However, when the police recovered the keys of the house from Satish, they suspected him to have committed the crime.
