The High Court of Karnataka on Monday directed the state government to submit details of the reservation made to persons with disability for teachers’ posts.
Hearing a contempt petition filed against the Karnataka Residential Educational Institutions Society, a division bench comprising Justice Jayant Patel and Justice S Sujatha ordered notice to the society.
The petitioner, Mallikarjuna Revanasiddappa Handimani filed a contempt petition against the society for not accepting his application for the post of social science teacher despite reservations for persons with disabilities.
The petitioner contended that the society was not implementing reservation even after a government order in 2015 reserving 5% of the posts for the disabled and a similar order by the Commissioner for Disabilities in 2016.
The petitioner’s counsel Jagadish Shastri argued that the government is not following the 5% reservation quota and is turning down eligible disabled candidates for the post of teachers.
Foreign travel refused
The high court has rejected a petition filed by a retired Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) seeking permission to fly abroad to meet his daughter.
Retired ACF T V Sreenivasan is an accused in an illegal mining case and he is currently out on conditional bail. One of the conditions of the bail is that he must not leave the city. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) argued that if Sreenivasan was allowed to travel abroad, he could settle down there and the SIT will not be able to approach him for further investigation. Justice Rathnakala dismissed his petition.
Filmmaker seeks bail
Kannada film director A Madan has moved the Karnataka High Court seeking bail in a kidnap case.
Madan hired an ad agency owned by Paramesh to promote his film ‘Eradu Kanasu’. The director had even paid Rs 33 lakh to Paramesh towards promotions. The movie failed and Madan blamed Paramesh for the failure and asked him to return the money.
Paramesh returned only Rs 8 lakh and delayed the return of the balance. Madan and four others hatched a plan to kidnap Paramesh.
A complaint was registered with the Magadi Road police, who traced Paramesh. Madan's application for bail was rejected by the lower court. He has moved the high court, where the case will be heard on July 14.
