A head constable sustained injuries after he fell from the second floor of Reddy Janasangha women’s hostel, while chasing thieves, in the early hours of Saturday.

According to the Koramangala Police, Shivashankar, 45, was rushed to a nearby hospital and was later shifted to Hosmat Hospital. He is out of danger.

The police said that the head constable was on night patrol duty on Friday. He received a message on Saturday around 5.30 am that three thieves had sneaked into the hostel.

Shivashankar, along with Hoysala patrol vehicle driver Gurumurthy, rushed there.
Gurumurthy remained downstairs, while Shivashankar followed the thieves upstairs. The three thieves were hiding in a small passage connecting the first and the second floors, covered by an asbestos sheet. When he stepped onto the sheet to reach the second floor, it gave way and he fell, the police said.

He was injured on his head and face. Thieves fled the spot.

A host of senior police officers including DCP (South-East) Dr Rohini Katoch Sepat visited him at the hospital.

Shivashankar, a native of Anekal, is attached to Koramangala police station. This is the second such incident reported in just over a month.

Constable Holeyappa Meti, 28, attached to the Rajagopal Nagar police station, had suffered head injuries while chasing a thief at a factory near Andrahalli in the wee hours of July 6. The fall has led to memory loss for the policeman.
