Fad: Bachelor parties sometimes tend to go out of hand and become very wild.

Bachelor party was a concept that used to exist only on television till sometime back but over the past few years, things have changed quite a bit.

With commitment issues, more freedom to date and the number of relationships people have before settling down, the perspective towards marriage has changed too.

Thus, it’s only normal that one’s last night as a single man or woman has become a thing to be celebrated with the younger generation. Metrolife asks people in the city about everything that goes into these parties and why are they so popular among young people entering the institution of marriage?

“It’s not an Indian trend but people still follow it to enjoy their last day of freedom before entering a new life. The popularity of bachelor parties is increasing quite rapidly and so are the ways in which the day is celebrated,” says Franky Paul, a disk jockey (DJ) by profession. And people who arrange them for you may vary from your group of friends to even your family members, who want to give you a nice farewell before you enter the so-called jail!

“I organised a bachelor party for my brother, when he got married,” says Lorna, a marketing professional. “We got novelty cakes made for them in really crazy shapes and sizes. We had a lot of fun that night,” she adds.Normally a bachelor or spinster party is all about having a wild time to celebrate the last day of your freedom.

“The concept of marriage is defined by responsibility and seriousness, so a bachelor party is something totally opposite,” says Parul, an IT professional.  And while most people hang out with friends and have fun, sometimes things do get really crazy. “Some people like to have strippers in their parties but it is not compulsory as many don’t like it. But in India, male strippers are very rare because girls like to keep it simple,” says Franky.

“People just love to drink and dance. But what makes it different from any other Saturday night party is that one person who becomes either the butt of all jokes or ends up doing stuff that he or she wouldn’t normally do,” says Aditi, a marketing professional.

“What really happens in a bachelor party is booze, music, lots of fun and dirty talk. And most of the time, something really hilarious happens at these events,” says Franky. So whether one likes them or not, these parties represent the change of culture among the youth of the country.
