Some cite ignorance, others the foreign language of Arabic, in which the holy book for the Muslims have been written. In a bid to bridge the gap between the believers of Allah and other faiths, a not-for-profit organisation, Salaam Centre has gone on an aggressive advertising campaign and generated huge interest in Karnataka on the Koran.
As many as 5,000 copies of the Koran, translated in English, Kannada and Tamil, have been ‘gifted’ by the Centre to non-muslims in the month of Ramzan this year. “We have been trying to generate interest among the people and trying to eradicate misconception about Islam by gifting copies of Koran to our non-Muslim brothers,” informed Hamid Mohsien, President of Salaam Centre.
Copies of the Koran, claimed to be one of the largest selling book over the years, have been gifted by Salaam Centre since June of last year in Bangalore. Till date since February 2009, the Centre has presented as many as 25,000 copies of the Koran.
The book translated in English, Kannada and Tamil has been distributed among IAS, IPS and Government officials to autorickshaw drivers who have shown keen interest in understanding the religion and the holy book.
