Home-alone elderly woman murdered, gold jewellery missing in Bengaluru

Robbers killed a home-alone elderly woman on Thursday and took away gold jewellery and other valuables, police said.

The murder of Dilshad Banu, 62, at her Anepalya home in central Bengaluru was discovered by her son when he returned 2 pm. Finding her motionless, he rushed her to hospital where doctors declared her brought dead. A preliminary investigation by the police found that she was strangled.

Banu’s son drives a goods vehicle and had left for Hirisave village in Hassan district in the early hours of Thursday to deliver coconuts. His wife was visiting her parents in Koratagere along with her children.

Ashoknagar police, who have jurisdiction over Anepalya, suspect that the robbers took away gold bangles and earrings among other valuables. “We found some clues on the spot and are carrying out an investigation,” a senior officer said.

A case of murder has been registered.
