A bizarre sequence of events resulted in a deadly road accident on the Bengaluru-Mysuru expressway on Tuesday, killing three people, the police said.
A Hyundai i10, carrying three residents of Shivajinagar, crashed into the median, flipped to the other side, and collided head-on with an oncoming KSRTC Ashwamedha bus. The horrific crash, which occurred at Sangabasavanadoddi village, Ramanagar district, around 9.30 pm, killed all three passengers of the car.
The victims have been identified as Liyaqat Ali Khan (55), his wife Parveen (45), and his friend Noorullah Sharief (50). Khan was a scrap dealer in Shivajinagar, while Sharief ran a small business.
The police said Khan had asked Sharief to join him and his wife as they were visiting their daughter in Mysuru. Sharief agreed and brought his car to drive them to Mysuru. Police investigations showed that Sharief lost control of the car, causing it to crash into the median.
When the Ramanagara police reached the accident scene, they found the three deceased sandwiched inside the car that was damaged beyond recognition.
The front portion of the bus was also completely damaged, but no passenger or crew member suffered any injuries, the police said.
