For cyclists wanting a separate lane to pedal on without obstruction from motorists, here's good news.
The under-construction 15-kilometre cycle lane project, put together by the Palike and Department of Urban Land Transport (DULT), will be thrown open to the public in May.
Work for the joint project, carried out at the cost of Rs 18 crore, began last August and has taken a longer time than expected to be completed. When it is ready in May, it will have CCTV surveillance to prevent motorbikes and cars from swerving in.
"The project is in its final stages," a senior BBMP official told DH. "We will complete fixing the CCTV cameras and tie up a few loose ends by
May."
The cycle track will come on the 27th, 14th, 22th, 17th, 19th Main Roads and 27th Cross Road, and 2nd Main Road to 15th Cross Road, and 5th Main Road to 9th Main Road in HSR Layout.
The DULT, meanwhile, is joining forces with the BBMP to lay a further 70 or 80 kilometres of cycle lanes in
the Central Business District under the Public-Private Partnership mode.
Among the 600 locations pencilled in for the project are MG Road, Vidhana Soudha, Indira Nagar, Banaswadi, HRBR Layout, HBR Layout, and Kacharakanahalli.
The lanes are bound to be busy with private PBS companies like PEDL by Zoomcar, Yulu, and Mobycy starting technology-enabled cycle-sharing services.
