The discovery was made on June 16 at one of the pits next to the parking lot at the MN Credence Flora Apartments at New Mico Layout, Begur, when a cleanup was under way, officials said.

The Begur police have registered an Unnatural Death Report (UDR) and sent the remains for a forensic analysis. A report is awaited.

Begur police registered the report following a complaint by Skariya John, the president of the residents' welfare association (RWA).

John told the police that the association had outsourced the pit cleaning and when the process was under way, the skeletal remains were found by the workers at the pit between apartments 221 and 321.

John also revealed that the percolation pits weren't working, and they were receiving notices from authorities and hence a decision had been taken to fix them.
