This could be part of a larger kidnapping racket involving children. A fortnight ago, at Indira Nagar, a 13-year-old boy was offered something by another boy. He fell unconscious and woke up in a Chennai-bound train, in which four other boys were being taken along with him.
When the train reached Chennai Central, repeated attempts by the kidnappers to wake up the boy failed, and he was abandoned in the train by the group.
“He managed to get the help of locals and called up his parents, who ensured his return to the City,” informed a friend of the boy’s family. A case has been registered at the Indira Nagar police station. The boy is still not able to recall the exact sequence of events, the friend added.
Meanwhile, Alok Kumar, Joint Commissioner (Crime), ruled out an increase in cases of kidnapping of children in the City. “If cases are brought to our notice, we will take stringent action,” he added.
