A lot of people in the Kannada film fraternity think that actress Haripriya has given up acting in Sandalwood, since she is being seen in Telugu projects more often.

She recently committed herself to a few more projects in Telugu. “It’s not true that I don’t want to work in the Kannada film industry. I have been getting some good roles in Telugu and if I get the same here, I will take them up as well,” Haripriya tells Metrolife.

Haripriya feels that Kannada movies have hero-oriented subjects and there always seems to be very little for the female lead to do. “The other industries are certainly different in that aspect. I will soon start dubbing for my Telugu film, Abbayi Class, Ammayi Mass.

I will be dubbing for the first time in Telugu. The director was impressed with my voice and he insisted that I lend my voice to my character,” says Haripriya, who is thoroughly excited about getting a chance to do more than just acting for her latest venture. She adds, “Telugu is my mother tongue and I don’t find it too hard to dub in.”

While things in the Telugu film industry are going really well for Haripriya, she is working on a couple of projects in Sandalwood — including Ranathanthra, meaning battlefield.

“This is a romance-cum-action thriller, in which I play a journalist. This character has given me a lot of scope to exploit the actor in me,” she says. In another Kannada film, that is yet to be titled, Haripriya plays a girl who works for a software company. “The story is about the good and bad sides of the IT world. It’s a suspense thriller and the entire story is not revealed till the end. That’s what a good movie must do to keep viewers entertained throughout,” she adds.

Haripriya prefers to go beyond ordinary roles and do something more substantial. “I have a lot of offers from the Kannada film industry but I want to do more challenging roles. I take my career pretty seriously and I don’t want to be just another actress,” she sums up.
