Actor Samyuktha Hegde has been shuttling between Bengaluru and Hyderabad to complete work for the Telugu version of ‘Kirik Party’.

She is playing the same character that she played in the Kannada version of the movie and is thrilled that the Telugu project is shaping up well.

Samyuktha is also appearing as a tomboyish character in the Kannada film ‘College Kumar’. Apart from that, she has bagged the lead role opposite actor-director Prabhu Deva in his next home production. She wishes to work in as many languages as possible and doesn’t believe in restricting herself as an actor. In an interview with Nina C George, Samyuktha talks about her latest projects and what keeps her going.

Tell us about your experience of being a part of the Telugu version of ‘Kirik Party’?

I play the same role as I did in the Kannada version but with some minor changes. The Telugu version has a new director, new cast (except for me) and the script too has undergone a few cosmetic changes.

So this will be your debut project in the Telugu film industry. How do you feel?
Yes it will be. When it comes to the language, I am most comfortable in Kannada but the people in the Telugu industry are also nice. There is a professional touch to everything. I didn’t find it very difficult to make myself at home in a new space, thanks to the warmth of the people.

What is your role in ‘College Kumar’?

I play a young girl who also happens to be a rowdy in the film. I have very interesting fight sequences. You will get to see me do fist fights. In fact, my dancing skills have helped me move swiftly and perfectly coordinate the eye and hand movement for the sequences.

What was your reaction when you heard that you bagged the lead role opposite Prabhu Deva?

I was stumped. I got a call from Prabhu Deva’s production house telling me that they wanted to cast me in their next movie. They narrated the script to me over the phone. I accepted the project because I liked the concept. But I didn’t know that I was going to play the lead opposite Prabhu Deva till I met the director. It took a while for the news to sink in.

As an actor, what do you want to be known for?

I want to be known for my fitness. I want to inspire people to take to fitness as a way of life. Not all actors have perfect skin, beautiful hair and are health freaks. I work extra hard to stay fit and healthy. This is a message I want to send out to people.

You are also among the most trolled actors in the Kannada film industry. How do you react to trolls?

There are all kinds of trolls, including the nasty variety. I respond to trolls that I find are in good taste but I detest those that indulge in tarnishing someone’s image. Trolls should never be used to add fuel to fire.
