Actor Sushmita Joshi, who is excited about her debut role in the recently released ‘Run Antony’, has already signed her next movie and is doing the homework for it.
For the untitled project by director Kumaresh, this youngster has been told to do research and prepare for her role. In a candid chat with Tini Sara Anien, she talks about her role in the movie and the preparation process.
How does it feel now that your first film is out?
As someone who just did her debut role, I’m nothing short of excited. The movie happened by mere coincidence. I never planned to be an actor. I was a model and acting classes were held as part of the training. I was never able to do them, as I couldn’t randomly act. After this, someone from Raghu Shastry’s team saw my picture and asked me to audition and that is how the role happened. The movie was a solid training ground for me.
How different is your second movie?
In ‘Run Antony’, I played the role of a vibrant and bold young girl who wasn’t scared of speaking her heart out and taking a bold stand. But in this movie, I play the third lead — the role of a young college-going girl, who is innocent and meek. She is a shy person.
The director wanted a fresh face and someone who was inexperienced and willing to learn from the experiences of people around.
There is a set of guidelines that the movie has, since it is based of a novel.
The importance of your role...
Since it is a novel-based story, each character, including the friends and the smallest characters, have a big role in the project.
What is the homework that you’re doing?
I play the role of a young girl who is very emotional. I was asked to watch certain movies and take lessons from certain characters so that my performance would be smooth.
Even my body language will matter. How my character reacts is important and that is going to be the most challenging part.
The challenges you are expecting from the movie...
I could associate to my role in ‘Run Antony’ because I am a bold girl who speaks her heart out. I am not brash, but I am not shy either. Playing a character with such innocence (in the new project) will be a challenge. Also, in real life, I’m a third-year fashion student from NIFT. I have to make sure that I finish my course smoothly. This, while balancing the role of a reel-life student, will be interesting.
Your biggest worry...
(Smiles) I was the youngest on the set and sometimes that can be a little unnerving. Also, I need to perform well in the presence of other experienced actors like Chethan and Meghana Raj.
