Bengaluru: Building owners who have constructed illegal shops in basements will soon receive notices from the BBMP, Chief Commissioner M Maheshwar Rao said.

“Basements are meant solely for parking and must not be used for commercial purposes. Officials must issue notices and take legal action wherever violations are found,” Rao said.

During a review meeting with Mahadevapura zone officials, Rao also instructed officials to prepare a development plan for each of the 52 lakes in the zone, covering encroachment removal, stormwater drain upgrades, and buffer zone restoration.

To streamline civic works, a committee will be formed under the joint commissioner to coordinate and provide timely updates on ongoing projects.

Officials were asked to resolve Transfer of Development Rights (TDR) issues through talks with property owners to facilitate land acquisition for works such as the Hoodi Junction underpass and road widening near Panathur S-Cross.

Rao further directed officials to maintain cleanliness in drains and take up flood prevention measures in vulnerable areas.
