Newcomer Suma Guha is hardly two movies old but has already worked with the likes of Arjun Sarja in Tamil film industry and Ramesh Aravind in Sandalwood. Though she is from Mumbai, Suma says that she always wanted to get established in the South first and then move on to other places.
“I really appreciate the working pattern in the South. People in the South industry are quick and know what they want, hence I would first like to gather all the experience that I can here,” says Suma.
Coming from a theatre background, Suma says that acting was something she always wanted to do. “I ’ve always been very creatively inclined and I enjoy acting on stage as well as in front of the camera,” she adds. It was when she was doing a bit of theatre and modelling, someone suggested her for the lead role in a Tamil film, Dorai, where she was cast opposite Arjun Sarja. Having heard of his popularity, Suma was extremely nervous.
“I had heard so much of him but it was when I saw him on the sets that I witnessed his huge popularity. There was a huge crowd on the sets waiting to get his glimpse,” says Suma, who plays the role of a glamourous girl in this action film.
The glamour element is something she brings into Preethiyinda Ramesh as well. Directed by Gunakumar, Suma is said to bring in the spice for the film. But off-sets, Suma says that she is as simple as she can get, so getting into the character was a challenge. And she did sure did get over it, “People actually call me the Spice Girl on the sets,” she laughs while adding, “I play this vivacious girl in the film, who is lost in her own world and is in love with Ramesh (Aravind)’s character. What I really like about my role is that my character slowly matures in the course of the film.”
She is thankful to her co-stars and crew who took extra effort and saw her through her first two movies. “Even in times to come, these two movies will always remain special,” she signs off.
