In his first candid reaction on the possibility him becoming Karnataka’s next chief minister, JD(S) state president H D Kumaraswamy on Tuesday said he was “a victim of changes.”
Kumaraswamy has been offered “full support” by the Congress to form the next government.
“I’m not becoming chief minister by desire. I’m a victim of changes,” he said, adding that things did not turn out the way he planned.
“I wanted to become chief minister with the blessings of six crore Kannadigas. But that’s not to be. Earlier, too, I became chief minister as a victim of changes. The BJP has given me much trouble. This time, whatever is happening is in line with my father’s wish,” he said.
He said he faced the taint of having allied with the BJP in the past. “This is an opportunity to cleanse that taint. Let’s see what happens further. I had announced several programmes in the manifesto but I’m disappointed with election result. Still, I will work in accordance with my party’s secular credentials,” he said.
