Within two years, a pumping station will come up in Koramangala to drive wastewater to a sewage treatment plant (STP).
Bengaluru Development and Town Planning Minister K J George on Friday laid the foundation stone for the 210-MLD (million litres per day) station that will pump the sewage to the STP in Koramangala-Challaghatta Valley.
Since the sewage cannot flow by gravity, the pumping station will allow it to reach the STP with the help of 12 machines of 300 hp (horsepower) each. The station will have eight machines, out of which four will work continuously while the rest will be kept on standby.
A pipeline, 1,800 in diameter, will be laid for 5.3 km while another of 100 metres will be connected to it with the trenchless technology along with eight DI (ductile iron) scour valves and 16 DI kinetic air valves. The entire project will cost Rs 104.25 core and is expected to be completed in 24 months. Operation and maintenance of the plant are being awarded for seven years.
STP at Halasuru Lake
To prevent wastewater from entering Halasuru Lake, the BWSSB has constructed a 2-MLD sewage plant that was inaugurated on Friday. It has adopted the Sequential Batch Reactor (SBR) process in the plant spread over 0.245 acres. The installation cost Rs 3.98 crore.
