Stanford University Professor Emeritus Arogyaswami J Paulraj said India needs to speed up policy initiatives to become a global player on the telecom front by adopting 5G, IoT, and ICT technologies.

Speaking at the inauguration of the first edition of ‘ICT & IoT Start-up Tech Expo 2018’ organised by the Indian Telephone Industries (ITI) on Saturday, the India-born scientist said India is not a player on the world stage of telecom industry.

‘”With quick adoption and an innovative approach, India can perhaps not only be a global player but also be able to beat the global heads. Startups, PSUs and private entities must come together to show the world that we are also there,” he said.

ITI chief managing director K Alagesan said that in pursuit of innovation and excellence, India needs to bring together the best brains.

“We need to bring together the best brains, provide them with the infrastructure, hand hold them, believe in their ideas and guide them with experience that ITI has,” said Alagesan.

As part of the Start-up Tech Expo, Bengaluru-headquartered ITI also invited more than 100 startups and technology owners to showcase their products.

“Our effort is to collaborate with and enable such companies to make use of the firm’s infrastructure to produce their goods at their two-day startup tech expo. ITI is making efforts on capacity building as far as ICT technologies are concerned with the support of startups,” said Alagesan.

“Under the flagship initiative of the government of India and to build a strong eco-system for nurturing innovation and startups in the country, ITI’s ‘ICT & IoT Startup Tech Expo 2018’ is an effort to bring startups and their innovative ideas on a single platform,” said ITI director R M Agarwal.
