Bengaluru: A 24-year-old IndiGo customer service executive died after the office cab she was travelling in crashed into the rear of a parked bus on the international airport road in the early hours of Monday, police said.

Sneha I, a native of Madurai, Tamil Nadu, succumbed to her injuries at a nearby hospital. The cab driver, Vinay, 28, and a fellow IndiGo employee, Kausar Khanum, 21, sustained injuries, but are said to be out of danger.

The Chikkajala traffic police said the accident occurred between 4.30 am and 4.45 am near the ITC Factory, while the cab was en route to the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA).

Sneha and Khanum were picked up from their designated point in Dwarka Nagar near Bagalur Main Road. Vinay was their regular cab driver, a police officer said.

“Seeing the signal turn red, Vinay reportedly took the service road and was speeding towards the airport. Vinay did not notice a private bus that was parked on the side to pick up employees of a company in Doddaballapur, leading to the crash,” the officer added.

The front portion of the cab was completely crushed.

Sneha and Vinay sustained head injuries, while Khanum suffered minor injuries.

They were rushed to a private hospital in Hebbal via a toll ambulance. Sneha died around 7.40 am.

The police have registered a case against both the bus driver — for illegal parking on the service road — and Vinay for rash and negligent driving.

An investigation is underway, and medical reports are awaited to determine whether Vinay was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.
