I Change, an NGO, along with Indiranagar residents’ welfare associations (RWAs) is set to conduct a nine-a-side softball community cricket tournament from July 1.

The event will see residents of the five wards that Indiranagar is made up of, coming together and playing cricket with elected representatives and officers from various civic agencies. I Change, which has been working towards highlighting civic problems, plans to invite civic authorities such as BBMP, BWSSB, Bescom among others for the tournament.

Swarna Venkataraman, vice president of Indiranagar First Stage League RWA feels that residents of Indiranagar will also get a chance to interact with the authorities and get to know them better.

“We plan to invite the civic authorities, be it law and order or other departments. Indiranagar is a huge place — OMR to Domlur and HAL to 100 Ft Road — come under Indiranagar. Sometimes it is hard to know who your corporator is or who your local authorities are. So we thought this would be a good idea,” said Swarna.

“This is basically an initiative to get the community together and what better sport than cricket to do this. This will also help in mobilising people towards taking up some work in the community and keeping it neat and clean,” adds Swarna.

Only Indiranagar residents can participate in the event: Nine players in a team, both men and women are allowed. To register, contact Ravi 99451 52047 or Hari 99807 79004. There is a refundable deposit of Rs 500.
