Ananth decided to start the eatery since he was fascinated by the hotel business. “I wanted to do something different from the regular job. Though I didn’t have any background in the food industry, I decided to start a hotel. I found this place apt as there were no proper eateries in the area. It was started in 2005 and the demand is ever increasing,” says Ananth. The menu comprises South Indian, North Indian and Chinese items along with chaats, sandwiches, juice, ice-creams and milkshakes. But the South Indian items are more popular.

“Our customers usually prefer all varieties of dosa and idli-vada. The unique taste of sambar and crispy dosas make the difference,” says Shridhar, the cashier at the hotel. Ghee idli needs a special mention as it is the signature dish of Upahara Sagar. The button idlis, served with fresh ghee and small onion sambar, makes one visit the place again and again. Agrees Chandra Kumar, a customer, “The small idlis dipped in onion sambar give you a different experience. The flavour itself tempts one have a bite. Other than this, the masala idli is also my favourite”

The place is crowded with people from different walks of life. In the morning, college students frequent the place while in the afternoon it is the software professionals and the young crowd comes in during the evening. “As the prices are very reasonable, the students of Carmel Convent School, SSMRV College and Jain College come here with their friends to relish the food. Senior citizens come here for the morning and evening coffee or tea,” adds Ananth.

They place is very hygienic and one can see that the open kitchen is quite clean.

Customers appreciate the quality of the food and the hospitality of the employees here.

“Unlike other darshinis, this place is not congested. We have a vast space for the customers to stand and enjoy their food. The friendly nature of the staff has made me
come here again,” says Ajay Raibhagi.
