Shooting a film on the premises of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) building is allowed, officials clarified on Friday.

A day after a stir erupted over whether or not permission was granted to shoot Tamil movie 'Imaikaa Nodigal' inside the BBMP building, the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), Government of Karnataka, and the BBMP clarified they had given consent.

“The practice of granting permission for film shooting at certain government buildings at minimal costs has been there, in order to help the film industry... Following the same, permission is granted to shoot films at flyovers, underpasses, town halls, graveyards and so on,” a press release said.

The release noted that there have been multiple discussions on television and social media that permission was not granted to the Tamil movie. "However, the filmmakers have taken permission from both the DIPR and the BBMP and the documents have been attached,” it said. The BBMP officials clarified that permission was also given to ‘U-turn’ and ‘Dasharatha’ movies too.

Opposition party leader Padmanabha Reddy said, “These are our heritage buildings. How is it fair to grant permission to a Tamil movie than Kannada movies? I condemn this.”
