The protesters, led by Jayalakshmi, a former nurse who had filed the complaint of sexual harassment against the minister, raised slogans against government and Renukacharya.
Speaking to reporters, Jayalakshmi said that the dharna was aimed at exposing the Minister’s alleged misdeeds.

“We will tell the world what kind of a person he is. The Chief Minister should drop him from the cabinet. If not, we will intensify our agitation,” she said.

She alleged that she was "mentally and sexually harassed" by Renukacharya for the past two years, leading her to the brink of suicide.

Citing the example of dropping former Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Shobha Karandlaje, Jayalakshmi said "If an honest and capable minister such as Shobha Karandlaje can be dropped from his (Yeddyurappa’s) cabinet at the behest of some legislators, why can’t he take a similar decision for the welfare of the State?”

The protesters held a procession rally and submitted a memorandum to Governor H R Bharadwaj to drop Renuka-charya and to provide security to Jayalakshmi.
