Venkatesh (40), the cartman was stuck under one of the wheels of the cart and was dragged for a distance as the bullocks bolted. Hanumantha who was also travelling on the cart was thrown into a ditch and sustained serious injuries.
Venkatesh was a resident of Laxmaiayana Palya, and was married with two children. The police said it was rare that elephants from Bannerghatta and adjoining forest areas crossed over towards village.
The pachyderms did not harm anyone nor disturb the adjoining fields.
Senior forest officials and other administrative staff rushed to the spot and sanctioned a compensation of Rs 1 lakh to the family of the dead.
Dies of burns
Sabeena Taj (28) admitted to Victoria Hospital with burns on Tuesday, died Thursday morning. Taj, a resident of Kasturibai Nagar suffered burns while cooking.
