To commemorate their 100th 'Hunnimehaadu' programme, the Kadumalleswara Geleyara Balaga held the Kadlekai Parishe in Malleswaram near the Kadu Malleshwara Temple.

This is the first time that the peanut fest is being held in a place other than Basavanagudi, which has come to be known for this annual parishe.

The parishe was inaugurated with transgender rights activist, Akkai Padmashali and president of the Balaga B K Shivaram, offering Kadlekai to the temple deity.

"Malleswaram never had the Kadlekai Parishe before but this year we wanted to commemorate our programme's centenary year. From now on, it will be held every year," Shivaram said.

More than a hundred traders from places neighbouring the city took part in the festival.

One kilogram of peanuts was being sold for approximately Rs 30.

Along with peanuts, sweets and a variety of dishes from North Karnataka, clothes and ornaments, were also available for purchase.

The Parishe concludes on Monday.
